Our Feathered Friends Observed
Little Messages from Birds

My first collection of poems was inspired by the birds which make their lives near my home.  From deliberate, poised grey herons to agile, inquisitive blue tits, I have often paused to observe them and have wondered how their lives may in different ways mirror back to us facets of our own.

I began writing about twelve birds, twelve moments and twelve perspectives on life - a meeting point of many things which I value - language, curiosity, nature and a belief that we all observe and make sense of life in our own unique ways.

I could not have wished for a better partner to illustrate my words than my friend, Mea Bateman.  I personally know no other person who cherishes birds as much as she does.  Her signature style of linocut prints brings a fresh and clean charm and captures the birds in a moment in time.  Together, we wish you peaceful and reflective moments with the birds that have inspired us to write and to create.

What people say ...

A thought provoking, excellent read - a wordsmith.  Jean W

Abby's book is not only a balm of beauty, love, empathy, care, support, peace and hope.  The imagery she uses from the world of birds not only reflects the beauty and wisdom of what nature constantly offers us but they also offer a beautiful gateway to self-knowledge.  Abby beautifully and intelligently leverages birds to help us reflect on events, make nurturing decisions, and focus on spiritual growth.  This wonderful book is not only a work of art in itself, but also a valuable tool for self-knowledge and growth, and for professionals in the world of coaching, psychology and therapy.  A must in your personal library.      Carla N-B

What a wonderful book.  First aid for life.    Simon B

One summer, every night, a nightingale sang from the tree in our garden.  We told Abby about him and then there he was singing to us forever from this most beautiful and meaningful book.  We love it.   India & Sam W

The Mallard

I live out my life in full view,
even waddling nonchalantly past you,                  smiling at my elegant bottle-green tone,
a continuous joy, never outgrown.
