Magnified Grass

Supporting young learners in Uganda.

Kiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD) is a grass-roots NGO whose mission is to improve health and educational provision for families living in resource-constrained settings near Kampala, Uganda.  KIFAD works tirelessly and transparently to address inequalities in access to essential healthcare and education, building a community hub for local, appropriate and free services.

I have been involved in fundraising to support KIFAD's development objectives since 2011.

Of particular importance to me is supporting the life chances of children who may not easily have access to early years education.  Family and economic circumstances may not allow them to attend school due to the prohibitive costs of school fees, approximately €300 per year per child.  This is a critical gap which KIFAD strives to fill for the local community through its Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD).

Building on a decade of fundraising, I will be sharing ways here in which you may wish to help me support this vital work, fostering language and learning for the youngest whose future opportunities for growth and success KIFAD aims to nurture sustainably.

KIFAD Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD)

01

In the summer of 2019, KIFAD constructed and opened an ECD for up to 100 highly disadvantaged children.  Using careful assessment of families' needs, KIFAD targets its early years education service towards those whose families may not otherwise be able to meet the costs of schooling.

Through provision of school materials, transport and uniforms, KIFAD removes a significant financial burden from vulnerable families and brings children into school, significantly improving their opportunities to learn, develop and build their futures.

Currently, in 2023, 48 children aged between 3.5 and 8 years are benefitting from an early years education at the KIFAD ECD.

In 2020, KIFAD further developed the ECD with the construction of a brightly equipped playground, thereby strengthening its aims of supporting vulnerable children in their physical, social and emotional development.

ECD Speech Days

KIFAD brings the children who attend the ECD and their parents together for Speech Days which celebrate the learning, progress and community of the Early Childhood Development Centre.  Such events reinforce the centrality of KIFAD's aims to promote the importance of keeping highly disadvantaged children in early education, strengthening their future as well as that of the whole community.

Fundraising in Luxembourg for the KIFAD ECD

In 2019 and 2020, I had the pleasure of teaching the team of wonderful and dynamic instructors at The Little Gym Luxembourg, as well as their colleagues next door at the soft-play centre, Zig Zag.  My aim - to help the team improve their English for day-to-day interactions with the young gym members and their parents.  Not only was it an uplifting and thoroughly enjoyable experience but it also raised much needed funds to support KIFAD in their goal of building and equipping the Early Childhood Development Centre and its playground.

Thank you to The Little Gym for your involvement in and commitment to helping KIFAD improve the lives of young learners in Uganda!
