Don't rush, don't hurry ...

Don't rush, don't hurry ... the rhythmic coo of a wood pigeon on the rooftops behind my house seems to say, almost hypnotically, as I sip my first morning cup of tea and gather my thoughts for the day ahead.
A humble ritual, this grounding moment settles me in its simplicity. I arrive in my body gradually, mulling thoughts over, becoming readier to get action underway. The cool porcelain of a treasured mug in my hands and the soft, vibrating coos soothing my ears feel profoundly comforting, offering minutes to be savoured before the busyness of the day unfolds.
Just as a good cup of tea needs time to infuse, time allowed an infusion of ideas to steep and become Teapot Parlour, a new tearoom which invites slowing down, pausing in a busy day to talk, to browse and to honour the ritual of tea poured from a pot into elegant china cups, accompanied by a piece of cake sure to delight the senses. It gently anchors visitors in its familiarity and charm.
I feel immensely welcome, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, surrounded by an eclectic yet meaningful collection of teapots and china, all with stories to tell of unhurried conversations with family, with friends or with others.
As I sip a cup of tea there, I am reminded to breathe and reminded that contentment can be found through the gift of our senses and the pleasure of friendly conversation.
On days that I am fortunate to hear the wood pigeon's evening call, I pause to listen and settle my thoughts, once again taken to a peaceful place, where time holds still.
On Sunday 7th December, I will be reading the poems from 'Our Feathered Friends Observed, Little Messages from Birds' at Teapot Parlour. Find out more about the event here:
